What a white screen is useful for

  • Spotting dark pixels and dust: dead pixels and specks show up as dark dots on white. For a complete check, use the dead pixel test.
  • Checking backlight evenness: patches that are visibly darker, yellower or bluer than the rest show uneven backlighting or a tint across the panel.
  • Cleaning the screen: smudges and streaks are easier to see on white. Clean with the screen off or cool, then check again.
  • A soft light source: a white screen can light your face on a video call or help trace a drawing placed on a tablet. Warm white is gentler in the evening.

Tips

  • Turn the screen brightness up for lighting, down for checking uniformity — a dim white shows clouding better.
  • Night-light and blue-light filters tint the white yellow. Turn them off when checking colour.
  • The page cannot change your screen's hardware brightness; use the monitor buttons or system settings for that.
  • Your screen stays awake while the white screen is open, if your browser supports it.

Questions

How do I exit the white screen?

Press Esc, or move the mouse and click the Exit button in the top corner. On phones, use the browser's back gesture.

Does a white screen damage OLED displays?

Not in normal use. Like any static image, leaving it on at full brightness for many hours every day is not recommended on OLED.
