Gamepad tester
Connect your controller and press any button. The tester shows each button, analog trigger and stick exactly as your browser receives them.
No controller detected yet. Connect one and press any button.
- Connect the controller by USB cable or Bluetooth before testing, and close apps that might take exclusive control of it (for example Steam Big Picture or DS4Windows).
- Click on this page, then press any button on the controller. Browsers only reveal a controller after a real button press.
- Still nothing? Try another USB cable or port, re-pair over Bluetooth, or try a Chromium-based browser or Firefox. Some controllers only work in a specific mode (for example XInput or DirectInput).
Vibration (rumble)
Connect a controller, press a button, then start a short vibration. You can stop it at any time.
How to test a controller
- Connect the controller by cable or Bluetooth.
- Press any button: the browser only exposes a controller after a real press on the open page.
- Press each button and D-pad direction. Cells turn orange while held and green once they have worked.
- Squeeze the triggers slowly: the value should rise smoothly from 0.00 to 1.00.
- Move each stick in full circles, then let go and watch where the dot settles.
Reading the result
- Buttons: a button that never turns green after firm presses is not reaching the computer. A trigger that never reaches 1.00 or jumps instead of rising smoothly can point to a worn sensor — or to a software trigger-stop setting.
- Sticks at rest: a released stick rarely reads exactly 0.000. Small values are normal and games hide them with a deadzone. A dot that sits well away from the centre, or drifts while you are not touching the stick, is what players call stick drift.
- Sticks in motion: the trail should reach the outer ring in every direction. A trail that falls short on one side means the stick cannot report its full range there.
- Mapping: with
standardmapping, names like A / Cross follow the usual layout. With non-standard mapping the numbers are raw and may not match the printed symbols.
Limits
- Gyro, touchpad gestures, adaptive triggers, rear paddles and headset audio are generally not exposed to web pages.
- What the browser sees depends on the operating system, driver and browser. A controller can behave differently on a console than here.
- The page reads values; it cannot recalibrate or repair a controller. Calibration is done with the maker's or the operating system's tools.
- Values are refreshed once per screen frame, so this is not a measurement of controller latency.
Questions
Why is my controller not detected?
Press a button while this page is open and focused — browsers hide controllers until then. Then check the cable (some are charge-only), re-pair Bluetooth, close apps that grab the controller exclusively, and try another browser.
Does it work with PS5 and Xbox controllers?
Yes, DualSense, DualShock 4 and Xbox controllers work in current Chrome, Edge and Firefox on Windows and macOS when connected by cable or Bluetooth. Features beyond buttons and sticks are not available to websites.
How much stick movement at rest is normal?
There is no universal limit: it depends on the controller and game. Compare both sticks, watch whether the value keeps changing while untouched, and test again after a full circle. A value that clearly grows over time or makes in-game movement happen is worth acting on.
